Are Mentors Really Necessary When it Comes to Your Success?

Mentors.
Masters.
Gurus.
Guides.
Teachers.

Call them however you want, they’re usually the ones who light the way to the clueless you.

They’re a spring of knowledge and wisdom, and for a good reason: They’ve been tested and have been through the battlefield.

And they make your learning journey insightful but by no means easier than it would have been if you were on your own.

But are they REALLY necessary for your success?
The answer is… no.

And i say that because in the end, they’re merely acting as “sharpening stones” if you may,
For you, the raw piece of iron.

But that doesn’t mean that without the sharpening stone the piece of iron is useless.

You get what i’m trying to say?

If the piece of iron is of good quality (If you have good traits that let you thrive on your own) It STILL is an incredible raw material.

Sure, the mentor would surely help you – but at the end of the day, even if you had it, the work still needs to come FROM YOU.

So you can finally see that it’s not really about having someone to guide you, as long as you’re longing and doing everything you can to succeed.

3 Useful Tips For Handling Business Calls & Meetings Anxiety While Stopping Overthinking.

Do you find yourself overly-anxious before talking to someone important for your success? Is your heart skipping beats while talking to that client, and feel like everything will go to ruin in an instant?

Do you stutter incredibly and seem like you can’t get your point across and you look like an anxious idiot who can’t even hold a conversation? I was in that place too, and still AM at times. Here are some things that might help YOU that seem to work for me.

First.

You have to realize that prospects are HUMAN BEINGS just like you, and that’s going to lift a lot of pressure from your shoulders, trust me.

So, as human beings, they like to have fun and enjoy things that “vibe” with them.

Basically, don’t sound like a robot when talking to them. Don’t be so stiff!

See ’em like a friend you’re having a chat with – keep things lighthearted, friendly and HUMAN, without forgetting about the purpose of the call, helping them solve an issue.

Joke around a bit, connect with them – be professional & a pleasure to talk to.

They will be prone to likely work with a positive and cheerful person, who doesn’t want that?!
And that will result in an awesome business partnership.

Balance is the key.

Second.

LISTEN MORE THAN YOU TALK!

This way you’ll be able to get a better grasp of their situation and you say overall less things that might ruin the call, and that equals to less anxiety!

Third.

Recognize that failing or not “closing” the client is OK.

Don’t think too much about it, use the failed interaction as a stepping stone to propel you forward.

See what you could have done better, what things that you could have phrased in a different way, ecc..

Put more emphasis on the important topics and implement all these adjustments in your next interaction.

A Few useful and surefire ways to stay focused

“You need to focus, concentrate dammit!” How many times have you heard these words (or something similar) towards you accompanied by a flying book straight to your forehead? be it from your teachers or your parents-they all say to focus but nobody really taught us to do so isn’t it? Well, that’s why i’m here ;D

Laser-like Focus it’s the element that can make WORLDS of difference when it comes to attaining anything relevant and worthwhile in your life. How do you think top class athletes and scientists that make groundbreaking discoveries make all this possible? by snoozing and having their minds and attention wandering all day? Sure, if you’re talking about someone i’ve never heard of.

In this day and age everyone – starting from people, friends and family and going to big tech companies accompanied by their useless noise (social media, news, TV, ecc..) – is looking to monopolize your attention. (see? i just did that) Why? because they know it’s very valuable, while you don’t, and waste it. What if you actually stopped chasing useless things and instead tried to stay silent with a goal in mind? Let me give you some useful tips to make this easier.

Environment and Planning

They say that the environment you swim in reflects what you are and what you will be, and that’s true to an extent – that’s why you should do everything you can to bend it to your needs by:

  • Making your work environment like a top-secret military base, people need some kind of clearance to access it so they won’t bother you. BE A MAD SCIENTIST, WAHAHA!
  • Have your workspace tidy and smell good. It calms your nerves.
  • Open the windows and let the air flow.
  • Specify or write down all the tasks you need to do for the day and tackle them with a 50min work and 10min rest tempo – or however it works for you.
  • Big tasks in the morning, lighter ones in the evening.
  • Turn off your phone and disconnect from the Internet if not required to do work.

Mindset and Planning (2)

  • For the day(s) you need to concentrate be sure to not have any kind of commitments to other people. Maintaining that focus streak is key to later build a habit!
  • Be excited. Of course you need to have a reason to this, so i hope you’re working on something that resonates with you.
  • Approach the tasks with “the sooner I do it, the better” mindset. It’ll give you a weird (aka guilt?) boost.

Extra but priceless!

  • Stay hydrated. By doing so you ensure that all your bodily functions are in top notch shape and can work properly, 2L a day is ideal.
  • Have a snack for when it gets rough. Carbs = Sugars = Energy, Easy.
  • Cut off the noise with some good music or white noise, if you’re like me. It really puts me in “the zone”.
  • Motivation. I wouldn’t use it too much because i consider it a feeble force, but sometimes a quick burst of it from some motivational videos could do the trick.
  • Breathe. Deeply. This allows your blood to flow and your nerves to relax, some meditation before doing the work is even better.
  • Remember to stretch\do some push-ups between breaks! Just do it.

There are many more tips i could list, but these’ll have to do for today – can’t put all my eggs in one basket after all!

Tell me if some of these tips actually helped you, and how you usually keep yourself in check when it comes to focus, i’d love to hear your take!

Take care,

HOW TO DEAL WITH COPYCATS: THE QUICK WAY

Aaaaah…copycats. Aren’t they lovely? at least once in life everyone had one on their necks…may it be for something “lighter” like copying your style and how you speak, or something “heavy” like full-on copying your personality and way of life. Maybe some of you STILL have one that’s bothering you and can’t seem to shake off no matter how much time passes. Worry not, i’m going to explain you why you needn’t worry about them.

Let’s start by saying that usually, copycats that “matters” are somewhat close to you, they’re usually friends and family but they can even be simple acquaintances. What the copycat is doing is trying to get an overall idea of what you’re doing so he\she can copy you…exactly, they don’t even bother digging in. After all the only thing they care about is to APPEAR as good as you, when in reality they’re not. That’s why usually their facades tend to last a little while. This is the standard copycat. Just forget about him\her and go on with your life (this remains true even with business copycats), this kind of copycat will have a “short life”, just wait and see.

Then there’s another form of copycat that it’s a little more extreme and it’s actually very annoying and can be frustrating to have around. This one will be probably someone very close to you like a friend – and they usually use the deep bond they’ve formed with you to get to know you better so they can pull off a well crafted act. At first this person may look like he\she’s admiring you or really likes you when in reality it’s just trying to mimic you because of a simple fact:

These people LACK personality.
And that’s why you shouldn’t be concerned.

Because after a while, people around them (and you) will start noticing this, too!

I know, it’s frustrating at first, but see it like this – they decided to copy you in the first place because you are original and unique! it’s not like they can reproduce your awesomeness just by a mere act, originality it’s something that CANNOT BE COPIED. THAT’S WHY IT’S CALLED LIKE THIS. No matter how hard they try, they’ll look like fools.

Just distance yourself from these people and keep on doing you. You’ll forget them in a matter of hours! you have to be ruthless with the distancing though, the more reason to do so in the case of a family member doing this. You HAVE to make them feel like something’s not right – and that they will gain nothing by trying to emulate your persona.

Because in the end the only people that are TRULY appreciated are the ones that can stay true to themselves and don’t have the need to be someone else to be accepted.

Appereance Matters For Your Success, See Why.

“Never judge a book by its cover”

That’s how the saying goes, right?

Well, this is half true – in fact, when first meeting someone it’s completely OK to guess some things here and there, but how’s this related to your success? let’s take a look.

Thing is, the first impression you have on someone hugely impacts how they’re going to perceive you afterwards. Let’s take the example of a business meeting: If you made sure to leave a good impression beforehand, you can be sure that the rest of the meeting will go much smoother than it would’ve gone if you hadn’t taken that “countermeasure”.

The reason is because your appearance says A LOT about you.

  • How do you carry yourself?: How’s your posture, straight and confident, or weak and twitchy? do you walk like you mean it, or are you crawling like a worm? is your head high and your eyes full of fire, or you always keep your head down?
  • The way you speak: Sounding confident when speaking it’s key. If you don’t believe in what you’re saying, how are others supposed to take you seriously? when you talk it feels like you’re whispering? welp, don’t do that – make yourself heard! now, don’t go screaming because it’s bad manners and it’s unsightly – keep a constant and pleasant tone. Don’t stutter while talking, being fluent and slick gives you more credibility and overall it’s nice and soothing to hear someone who can talk.
  • Your Self esteem: Do you take yourself too seriously like you’re some kind of deity, or make a fool out of yourself whenever the chance is presented to you? DON’T. You must inspire admiration while being able to laugh at yourself from time to time. Remember, if you don’t respect yourself others won’t follow suit.
  • How you dress yourself: Of course, dressing like some kind of bum won’t cut it. Again, if you want others to love you as much as you do – you have to make the effort to make them see how much you love yourself. Dress to impress! that doesn’t mean you have to wear tailored suits every day and pay hundreds of dollars for your clothes. Of course you can play the cheap card, it doesn’t matter if your shoes are worth 1000$ or 5$ – you can impress even if you don’t have money for fancy stuff. Be sure to wear clean and fresh clothes with no wrinkles – groom yourself if you’re a man, cut your hair and keep up good personal hygiene! it’ll make you stand out from others.

What about what’s inside though? 😦

Of course, in the end it doesn’t matter if outside you’re a “looker” and inside you’re empty as the pot i used to make homemade curry last night.

Being a wholesome human being (of course) comes before all of this – having an identity, values you treasure and things you’ll stand up for, what i want you to understand is that…

sometimes in life a good impression can make a huge difference in the outcome of your success, because people are inherently looking for all these little traits that define a great individual you would do business or start some sort of relationship with.
